At the HP Amplify 2024 event taking place in Las Vegas today, Intel CEO Patrick Gelsinger shared his predictions for the future of PCs. In response to a question posed by HP CEO Enrique Lores about the future of PCs, Gelsinger sees PCs being replaced by smart glasses and no longer needing physical keyboards.
For decades, PCs have come in the form of desktops. This changed with the introduction of the WiFi standard as well as the Centrino chip that drove the use of mobile laptops. Now over 80% of PCs on the market are laptops. Gelsinger believes smart glasses will replace laptop screen displays.
He added that voice control will replace the need to type on the keyboard as is done now. The era of humans changing to interact with devices will be replaced by the era of devices changing to be used by humans.
With AI technology on PCs expected to begin with the introduction of chips such as Intel Core Ultra, these two CEOs agree it is a technology that will change the market landscape like cloud computing did a decade ago. HP will be unveiling some of their “AI PCs” at the HP Amplify event and we will be reporting on them shortly after they launch today.
