The Japanese government has now started discussions with countries in Southeast Asia to enable the use of QR code-based payment services. As many are aware, a similar service is known as DuitNow QR in Malaysia.
Today, local users can use DuitNow QR in several neighboring countries, making it easier to pay when traveling in those countries.
With the introductory step in Japan as well, it will simplify the payment process, and will not require users to exchange currency before going on vacation or to Japan.
Japan stated that they will redevelop JPQR under a new system in early 2025 with the aim of making it easier to connect with overseas service providers.
Perhaps we will see implementation begin in 2025 or shortly thereafter. Let's look forward to it together.
