In 2022, the Road Transport Department has started testing the driving license test system in the form of e-Testing to further simplify and speed up the test process of obtaining a driving license.
The Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke has today announced that the e-Testing driving test will be introduced from April 2024. With this e-Testing driving test, he said that candidates can take the driving test without the physical supervision of a JPJ officer next to them.
The candidate's driving performance will be determined using cameras and tracking devices built into the car, and the results of this driving test can be issued immediately without any input from JPJ officials.
When it is introduced this April, users will still be given the choice of either taking the driving test as before with the presence of JPJ officers or taking it using the e-Testing system.
Among the advantages introduced with this e-Testing test is that candidates can make a second attempt if they fail to pass any circuit test for the first time on the same day and without any additional cost. Candidates also only need to repeat the failed test sections, and not the entire circuit test.
In the meantime, JPJ has also given a period of six years for all driving schools to make the change from the manual driving test to the e-Testing test. Anthony Loke said that the Transport Ministry and JPJ have a goal to make the e-Testing driving test the only vehicle license test by 2030.
