MediaTek Helio G91 Chip Announced For Launch Devices

Strangely enough, yesterday MediaTek launched a new chip aimed at entry-level 4G devices. The MediaTek Helio G91 is an update to the Helio G88 chip but retains the 2x Cortex-A75 and 6x Cortex55 CPUs paired to the Mali G52 MC2 GPU and 12nm technology.

Changes are only made to the ISP imaging chip. This gives it the ability to support up to 108MP main cameras which are increasingly popular for use on affordable devices. The supported memory is 8GB LPDDR4x and the storage is eMMC 5.1. The screen is up to FHD+ with a 90Hz refresh rate.

Because the core is very old, the G91 will most likely only be used in devices under RM800. The Helio G99 chip has previously been the choice of affordable devices that don't compromise greatly on performance. It is equipped with a more powerful Cortex-A76 core.
