"Summer" in Malaysia now seems to have started, with the Malaysian Meteorological Department or METMalaysia today announcing a number of locations throughout Malaysia with level 1 and level 2 heat wave warnings showing very alarming amounts of temperature.
A level 1 hot weather warning is issued for the locations of Perlis, Langkawi Island, Kota Setar, Kubang Pasu, Padang Terap, Sik, Yan, Pendang, and Baling in Kedah, Seberang Perai Utara, Seberang Perai Tengah, and Northeast Penang, Kuala Kangsar in Perak, Petaling and Sepang in Selangor, as well as Kuala Lumpur.
Similar warnings were issued for Beaufort in Sabah and Limbang in Sarawak. This Level 1 (caution) warning is given for locations that have recorded temperatures of 35-37 degrees Celsius for at least three consecutive days.
Pokok Sena, Kedah has been given a Level 2 heatwave warning, which means recording temperatures of 37-40 degrees Celsius for at least three consecutive days. A Level 3 extreme heat wave warning will be issued for locations that record temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius and above for at least three consecutive days.
People are advised to make sure that they always drink water and stay hydrated, and if possible, do not stay in the heat for long periods of time to avoid the issue of heat stroke.
