Microsoft has now announced that hackers from Russia known as "Midnight Blizzard" have accessed internal systems including access to some source code, a continuation of last January's cyber attack.
During the attack last January, Microsoft found that this group was using a "password spray" method attack or one of the "brute force" methods which collected a number of usernames and used various potential passwords to try to log in. At that time, the affected accounts were found to not have activated the two-factor authentication feature, thus leading to hackers breaking into Microsoft's systems.
Not stopping there, Microsoft has now discovered that the hacker used the information from the hack last January, to continue attacking and trying to break into Microsoft's system for the past few weeks.
In any case, Microsoft states that at this time they do not have any evidence showing that the systems accessed by users were hacked or compromised. The hacker known as Midnight Blizzard is said to be working for the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service.
Microsoft expects the attacks and activities of the hacking group to continue, and they will continue to share any developments regarding this matter.
