Mozilla is now writing an open letter to Meta, the company behind Facebook and Instagram to extend CrowdTangle's offering until January 2025. Mozilla's move comes after Meta announced it will end CrowdTangle in August 2024.
CrowdTangle is one of the services that facilitates various parties including journalists and researchers in obtaining various information related to sharing on Facebook and Instagram.
Mozilla stated that with this termination it will make it more difficult to monitor elections in several countries - including the United States, India, Brazil, Australia and so on this year. This Meta step is said to also have an impact on election integration, including in an effort to monitor what is happening on Facebook and Instagram.
Despite the existence of Meta Content Library, but it still does not have features and access like CrowdTangle for now.
For now, a number of companies have also signed their names under Mozilla's open letter. It is not yet known whether Meta will change his mind, or continue with the agenda to end CrowdTangle by this August.
