NVIDIA Produces Earth Twins In Virtual World To Predict Climate Change

Climate change will cause billions of dollars worth of damage in the near future. Therefore scientists need a model to see the impact of climate change so that any problems can be dealt with before they happen. At GDC this morning, NVIDIA announced the Earth-2 API that allows earth twins to be tested in the NVIDIA Omniverse virtual world.

Through CorrDiff's generative artificial intelligence (AI), Earth-2 can produce climate prediction models with 12.5x higher resolution than current models, 1000x faster and 3000x more energy-saving to produce.

According to Jensen Huang, the world is now seeing an increase in the frequency of prolonged droughts, dangerous typhoons, and major floods. Earth-2 can be used to make more accurate weather forecasts to deal with climate change.

The Central Taiwan Weather Administration (CWA) has used Earth-2 to predict where typhoons will hit. Since using typhoon forecasting models, Taiwan has managed to reduce the number of deaths due to disasters that hit every year. As an important country in the technology supply chain, Earth-2 can also avoid disruptions to production such as chips.
