PM Anwar Ibrahim Agrees to Establish a Gig Workers Commission to Protect Gig Workers




Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today announced his agreement to create a Gig Workers Commission.


One of the commission's main roles is to protect the rights of gig workers, especially among young people. It is estimated that gig workers reach 1.12 million people today.


The Gig Workers Commission will also focus on the social protection needs, contract disputes and also the career advancement of gig workers. The Prime Minister also said that the majority of young gig workers are bumiputera youth, but as informal workers, they do not have the protection of employment laws and the social protection system.
