The first computers with the Snapdragon X Elite chip will start shipping in H2 2024 after it was launched in October last year. This chip is seen as an answer to the ARM-based Apple M chip launched since 2020. Among the answers that Qualcomm did not give during the Snapdragon Summit 2023 was about whether existing PC games can be run on the Snapdragon X Elite chip.
At the ongoing GDC, Qualcomm finally revealed that existing PC games should have no issues playing on computers with the Snapdragon X Elite. This is done through the x86/ARM64 emulation system of video games. The Adreno GPU used also supports DX11, DX12, Vulkan, and OpenCL.
According to Qualcomm, developers can port their games to provide better native performance. But even if it is not done, the ARM64 emulation system is sufficient to run most games developed for X86 systems.
