SKMM Collaborates With Telco To Offer Tools For Parents To Control Children's Devices

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will work with five major telecommunication service companies to offer tools to help parents monitor and control their children's online activities.

This was informed by Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil in response to Kuala Krau MP Kamal Ashaari's question regarding the ministry's method of ensuring that children under the age of 15 are prohibited from having social media accounts so that they do not follow bad trends. Parental controls allow parents to filter, limit and block the online content their children see.

In addition, Fahmi also said that in order to deal with online risks and threats posed to children, the implementation of education and awareness programs about Internet safety will continue to be intensified through initiatives such as Klik Dengan Bijak and Malaysian ICT Volunteers (MIV) in schools, as well as the National Information Dissemination Center (NaDi) throughout the country.

Regarding Kamal's additional question about the need to include aspects of digital citizenship in the curriculum syllabus, Fahmi said it requires the cooperation of ministries such as the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Digital and the Ministry of Higher Education.
