The government has introduced the Solar for Rakyat Incentive Scheme (SolaRIS) to encourage the installation of solar panels in Malaysia. TPM Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the government agreed to add another 100 MW of energy for the Clean Energy Metering (NEM) program which has now increased to 350MW.
Through SolaRIS, part of the roof of the building can be used to generate sustainable energy. This is directly in line with the country's target to reduce carbon emissions into the atmosphere and increase sustainable power generation capacity up to 70% by 2050.
A rebate of RM1,000/kWac up to a maximum of RM4,000 will be given to new NEM applicants who submit an NEB application to the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) from 1 April to 31 December 2024. Next, the solar panels must be installed before 31 March 2025.
This announcement comes after Bomba said it will release solar panel installation guidelines in Malaysia and companies such as SOLS Enegry also announced their solar panel subscription program last week.
