Sony has halted production of the PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2) due to a backlog of unsold stock, according to a Bloomberg report. Since its launch last year, a total of 2 million PSVR2s have been released by Sony. Production of this VR headset has decreased every quarter since its launch.
PSVR2's underwhelming sales numbers have been reported since the beginning. Even production of all headsets showed a downward trend globally which saw Pico lay off a number of workers. Sony itself closed the PlayStation London studio that produced various virtual reality games. In order to generate sales of PSVR2, Sony has announced that it will be available on PC this year but the date has not yet been announced.
The only headset currently gaining traction is the Vision Pro which has exceeded Apple's initial predictions. Google and Samsung themselves delayed the launch of AR headsets with Qualcomm chips last year to redesign after the Vision Pro was shown.
