VLC is one of the popular media players on various operating platforms. Launched around 23 years ago, VLC now claims they have reached over 5 billion downloads of their software on both desktop and mobile platforms.
This at the same time places VLC as one of the media players with high user figures. The vast majority of users are on desktop, and users on mobile platforms are around 318 million downloads to date. Google also aims to use the Dav1d codec developed by VideoLan on Android after this, at the same time showing the high contribution of the platform.
Interestingly, moving forward, VLC is targeting the introduction of an app for Apple Vision Pro soon. They already have a test version, but have not introduced it to the public yet due to the small number of users.
In addition, the developers of VLC are also currently active in the development of a new version of the media player. There is still no date regarding the introduction of this update for now.
