As everyone knows, if you want to play YouTube videos in the background you need to subscribe to YouTube Premium. Otherwise, every time you lock the screen or change the application, the video that was playing will be paused. But did you know that on Xiaomi devices, there is a feature "Play video sound with screen off" or Play video sound with screen off that can play YouTube videos with the screen locked without paying any subscription.
Most recently with the Security app update on Xiaomi HyperOS devices and MIUI 12 – MIUI 13, this feature has been removed. This change happened at the behest of Google as Xiaomi indirectly included YouTube Vanced feature in their Video Toolbox. It's well known that even YouTube is fighting ad blocker plugins and encouraging people to subscribe to Premium for the best experience.
In my review, the Mi Video app has also been updated to remove the YouTube site. Earlier, Mi Video included YouTube web which can be watched ad-free also without any subscription. If you want to watch YouTube videos ad-free and can play audio in the background, the Premium subscription is free for a month for new users and can be continued at a price starting at RM17.90.
