You Can Now Verify Your Identity Before Paying With Google Wallet

Ever since Apple Pay launched in Malaysia, it has become my primary payment method no matter where I am. If possible Paywave I will touch the iPhone on the payment terminal. Apple Pay is also secure because every payment requires identity verification. Although Google Wallet has been in Malaysia, it doesn't support many cards and banks like Apple and what I don't like the most is that paying with Google Wallet doesn't require any identity verification.

Meaning if you lend the phone to a friend, he can directly open Google Wallet and make payments. In the latest update, authentication settings are finally added. You can now verify identity with a PIN or fingerprint that has been set on the Android device. It should be noted that this setting is only for public transport payments.

Meaning that although this setting is accessible in Malaysia, Google Wallet does not support any local public transport pre-paid cards. But if you use it in another country, Google Wallet will look for the card first. If not, a credit or debit card will be used and this is when this identity verification needs to be done.

I think it's a bit strange why this feature is limited to public transport only and can't be given to regular payments. If Apple Pay can and Samsung Pay can, what is the reason for Google Wallet. Are you still using Google Wallet even though no identity verification is required?
