Cybercab Is The Name Of Tesla's Call-to-Drive Service

Tesla will launch their robotaxi service next August. But this morning when announcing the company's financial report for Q1 2024, Tesla showed the design of a self-driving app to use this service.

You can see the "Summon" function for customers to call a robotaxi as well as the desired cabin temperature setting screen. In a question and answer session, Elon Musk said the service would be called Cybercab. Owners of Tesla vehicles can list their vehicles for use by Cybercab.

They can set who is allowed to use it and filter out only customers with a certain number of stars. With Cybercab, Tesla owners can generate income when the car is not being used by itself.

The robotaxi service was announced more than 6 years ago with Musk predicting at the time that over 1 million of their self-driving taxis would be in operation by 2020. Like the Roadster, Cybertruck and Tesla Semi projects, all of Musk's promises have been delayed.

The FSD system that provides "self-driving" capabilities is only Level 2 at this time unlike the Waymo service by Google which has already been operating without a human driver in San Francisco since 2022.
