Facebook is the world's largest social media site, and one of its main sources of income is based on advertising. In an effort to target ads well – benefiting advertisers as well as users, Facebook collects a large amount of data on users who use their platform.
Most recently, according to the filing of the suit in court, it appears that Facebook once considered paying users who use the platform. However, the idea was rejected and not continued.
According to a rough estimate, it is estimated that Meta or Facebook may have to pay around $5 per month for each user. If the move is chosen, it could be very costly for Meta, given that Facebook currently has over 3 billion users.
Today, Meta still generates their main revenue through advertising. However, for the European market, Meta also offers a service using Facebook without ads or trackers – but users have to make a monthly payment to Meta, or choose to allow trackers on their account.
