Google Gemini Switch To Assistant For Android Still In Development

Since last year it has been rumored that Google will give Android users the option of using Google Assistant or Gemini (then Bard) with a simple switch. But strangely it is still not given to Android devices and this switch feature to switch from one virtual assistant to another is only given to iPhone users.

On Android devices now, you have to go to the Gemini settings to choose one of the regular virtual assistants or with generative artificial intelligence. It's a bit clumsy compared to the Google app on iOS with a simple switch. According to AssembleDebug and PiunikaWeb, a new Google app for Android with Assistant to Gemini switch is still in development. It will work the same as iOS, but will come with a few interface changes.

On the OnePlus 12 device I'm currently testing, the Google apps have adopted a new design. But the change is still not happening on the Google feed on the home screen and the switch is still missing. It will probably arrive soon. In my test as well, many Malaysian users still don't receive Gemini if they don't subscribe to Google One AI Premium.
