Microsoft Copilot Blocked On US Congressional Staff Devices

The United States Congress has prevented Microsoft Copilot from being used on work devices given to employees according to Axio's report. This is to prevent personal or confidential data from being accidentally leaked to other platforms. Previously congress also banned the use of ChatGPT on given work devices for the same reason. Staff can still use Copilot and ChatGPT on personally owned devices.

The use of AI to help with daily work is now normal around the world. But because AI still largely requires data to be sent to the cloud for processing, it poses the risk of data leakage.

It has already happened before that Samsung employees accidentally revealed company secrets for using ChatGPT causing it to be banned altogether and Samsung developing its own AI with the help of Naver.

It is for this reason that many see the future of AI operating as built-in devices. This is already happening on Pixel and Galaxy devices and PCs. The challenge is that current hardware is not yet powerful enough to run more powerful language models (LLM). It not only requires high processing power but also consumes the amount of memory and storage on the device.

But only AI built into PCs can ensure personal data is not accidentally leaked and allow personal AI virtual assistants to be trained using our own data in the near future.
