People Don't Need to Worry About Cyber Attacks on National Digital Infrastructure - Teo Nie Ching

Issues regarding national cyber security are not new. From small and large companies, to government institutions, many cases of global and local hacking have occurred with confidential and personal data being sold many times on the dark web arena.

Recently, the Deputy Minister of Communications, Teo Nie Ching has issued a statement that tries to ease the worries of Malaysians by saying that the people do not need to worry about the ongoing data vulnerability issue.

According to The Star report, he said that although this cyber attack is indeed happening, the presentation of the Cyber Security Bill 2024 which was done in the Dewan Rakyat last week was aimed at defending the country's digital infrastructure, including data centres, banking, health and communications.

In addition to that, there is also the National Cyber Security Agency (NACSA) which will constantly monitor the activities of cyber attacks that occur on the country's digital infrastructure. Teo Nie Ching also said that it is among a number of agencies developed that can monitor national data security.

In the meantime, the Minister of Defense, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin also said that the country's digital defense system was reported to suffer 3000 cyber attacks every day, and this figure increased after the Malaysian government expressed support for Palestine recently.

Digital Minister, Gobind Singh Deo said that 11 local industry sectors will be defined as National Critical Information Infrastructure (CNII), including government, banking and finance, transport, defence, information, communication and digital sectors.
