Digital cameras are now equipped with increasingly large sensors with high resolution video recording capabilities. Therefore the storage card used in the camera needs to have a larger capacity. SanDisk wanted to meet this need and has succeeded in producing the world's first SD card with a capacity of 4TB.
The SanDisk Extreme Pro 4TB SD card was shown off at the NAB Show last weekend. It uses an Ultra High Speed-I (UHS-I) interface that provides the ability to transmit data at a rate of 104MB/s. At the same time it can write at a speed of 30MB/s which is fast enough for 8K video recording.
Although the card has been shown, SanDisk says it will only sell the Extreme Pro 4TB SD card starting next year. Pricing at this time has not yet been announced.
