Scientist Who Predicted Existence of Higgs Particle Dies

We are sure many people know about the existence of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN Switzerland because it became a plot in the book and later the film Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. But for people who are older like me, the LHC is becoming popular because it is claimed that it can produce a black hole that will destroy the earth. This did not happen but instead the LHC successfully confirmed the existence of the Higgs boson or another name for the Higgs particle.

Peter Higgs, the scientist whose name was used to name the Higgs Boson died on April 8 at the age of 94. He reportedly died of old age. The existence of the Higgs boson was predicted by Peter Higgs in 1964.

According to his theory, there is a field that gives mass to every particle in the universe (except protons). Only after particles have mass can they form all the objects that exist. Physicists spent decades trying to prove the existence of the Higgs boson. The Higgs boson is a wave that exists in this field. His discovery also confirmed the existence of a field that was given the name Higgs field.

This only happened in 2012 when it was detected in an experiment using the LHC at CERN. After its existence was confirmed, Peter Higgs and François Englert were awarded the Nobel Prize in physics in 2013.
