TikTok Under Investigation In EU For Program Paying Users To Watch Videos

The TikTok Lite app will be launched in France and Spain this month with the exciting feature of paying users to interact with the platform's content. Although the application has not yet been launched, the European Union (EU) has given TikTok 24 hours to explain how the program will be run and whether it will pose a risk of addiction.

The EU sees this TikTok Lite tactic as a cigarette that could have an impact on underage users even though it will only be open to those aged 18 and over. They will receive payment in the form of TikTok Coins for watching videos, leaving comments, following accounts and recommending others to use TikTok Lite.

Unlike regular TikTok apps, TikTok Lite does not use high data and can be used offline. Users also cannot stream or watch live content. TikTok Lite has been accessible in Malaysia since 2020.

The EU action comes a day after the U.S. House of Representatives again passed a bill that would force Bytedance to sell its TikTok business. Otherwise TikTok will be banned from operating in the country. TikTok has already prepared to sue the United States if this effort continues.
