Fingerprint and Spade Among New Emojis Announced For 2024

A list of seven new emojis to be introduced this year has been shared by the Unicode Consortium. Unicode List 16 will soon introduce emojis of fingerprints, shovels, leafless trees, paint splatters, harps, root vegetables and emojis with puffy eyes.

All these emojis are in beta stage with final confirmation to be announced next September. Smartphone users will see support for these new emojis through the iOS 18 and Android 15 updates given at the end of the year.

Unlike a few years ago, the number of new emojis introduced each year is decreasing. This is because according to the Unicode 15 standard, there are 3,782 emojis in total. A few years ago Unicode also stopped offering new flags to support certain groups.
