Here's How To Avoid Facebook Using Your Content To Train AI

AI, AI, AI. The use of this technology is becoming more widespread. Although it is interesting but at the same time, there are disadvantages. The downside is that tech companies use user data to train AI, such as Grok, Google and ChatGPT. Most recently, Facebook will also train their Meta AI with content shared by users on their platform.

Starting this week, users began receiving notifications from Meta on Facebook about user policy updates. If you don't want Meta to use content you've shared on Facebook, here's how;

First - See the notification "We're planning new AI features for you. Learn how we use your information“. If not you can visit facebook.com/privacy/genai website.

Second – Read carefully and focus on the last third paragraph “… You have rights related to how your information is used for AI at Meta. Learn more and submit a request here.”

Third - Press the clearly displayed link, you will be taken to the "AI at Meta Data Subject Rights" form.

Fourth - Press the third option "I want to delete any personal information from third parties used for building and improving AI at Meta.".

Fifth – You must then give Meta a reason why you do not want your data to be used to train an AI model.

Sixth – You are also required to include screenshots proving your data has been used to train the AI such as Meta AI answers revealing your personal data. (I provide a link to the user policy with feedback, I am concerned that my data is being used for having received this notification.)

Seventh – Wait for an email from Meta and keep hoping that you will receive a response and confirmation that they will not use your data to train AI models.

So far Meta AI can only be used in Australia, Canada, Ghana, Jamaica, Malawi, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. This generative artificial intelligence service still cannot be used in Malaysia, but it is not wrong to make preliminary preparations for the safety of our own personal data and privacy.
