Infinix GT 20 Pro Review – Once Again Competitors Are Stunned

Last year I reviewed the Infinix GT 10 Pro, an entry-level device marketed as a gaming device. Then they came with the Note 40 Pro which is also a basic device but complete with some flagship features. The latest I've been testing for almost a month, the Infinix GT 20 Pro – a continuation of their entry-level gaming device that's twice as powerful. This device is now in the middle class which is almost premium.

It is difficult to distinguish the design because the GT 20 Pro uses the same design as the GT 10 Pro. The screen is a flat type with a relatively thin bezel. The device looks elegant with a futuristic gaming theme, the shape is also a square that is flat on each side and slightly curved at the corners. This device is very easy to operate and comfortable to use as a daily device.

Despite looking premium, the build of this device is not very sturdy. After using this device for more than a week, in the hand can feel the quality for a device in this class which is not perfect. Even so, Infinix is still trying its best to bring premium elements to an affordable device. The buttons are still comfortable to press, the speaker grille design looks beautiful, but what I don't like is around the device it easily catches fingerprints.

SCREEN

A 6.78-inch AMOLED screen is used on this device with a resolution of 1080 x 2436 pixels. It also supports a 144Hz refresh rate, so playing high graphics games with X Arena will provide a satisfying experience. It is also quite fast and smart in determining the movement of the screen according to the content even though it is still new in the market. Brightness is limited to just 1300 nits, which isn't a problem since I spend a lot of time with this device indoors.

There's no Dolby Vision or HDR 10+ display support, so watching videos on Netflix or Prime Video will have to rely on HDR Video, which is its own screen color algorithm that's less beautiful. The screen color is given focus when playing the first game only, and that's only with X Arena. The screen is still quite comfortable to use for reading articles or ebooks.

BIOMETRIC

The Infinix GT 20 Pro uses an under-screen fingerprint scanner. It's not that great because my fingers are rarely detected and have to be scanned at least twice to be. The face unlock feature with the selfie camera is quite fast and good at determining who the real user of the device is.

USAGE – XOS 14, ANDROID 14 and GENERATIVE AI

Transsion can be considered as a baby in the Malaysian market. They only offer Tecno and Infinix, but are smart in giving users the best device experience. On the GT 20 Pro, XOS 14 for GT based on Android 14 is used which is free of fat applications. Yes, setting up this device is stress free and is very smooth and relaxing.

Although the application tray does not have many applications, XOS 14 for GT is equipped with many interesting features and functions. XOS does not use Google on the launcher but instead uses its own widget screen. The album app has an AI feature that can create memories and search by keyword like Google Photos. Then the device supports virtual memory that gives a total of 24GB of RAM to help processing and applications running in the background.

Although there is no Dolby Vision, an HDR Video feature is offered which uses their own algorithm to produce an HDR effect on Netflix. Infinix also doesn't want to be left behind with a Dynamic Island-like feature, the Dynamic Bar, which can display the status of voice recording, charging, phone calls and face unlock. The generative AI feature for translation via Folax is also retained. The most interesting is the Mecha Loop which is an RGB lighting system that uses LED columns like Nothing. It is also adaptive and interactive.

Infinix GT 20 Pro with XOS 14 for GT is a good match. This operating system tries to be Funtouch OS by vivo because it brings a lot of its own applications instead of using what Google has to offer. Good, but not very efficient for Malaysian users where the majority of device manufacturers use apps by Google. The X Arena feature is also a nice feature that further enhances the first-time gaming experience.

PERFORMANCE AND BENCHMARKS

Don't be surprised by the benchmark score of this device. I also didn't think because it was too high like last generation flagship device. Although the score is just a number, it matches my interesting and satisfying usage experience because this device really has a terrible performance. For this comparison, I put the Infinix GT 20 Pro together with the Infinix Note 40 Pro which sells for about the same price but with the Dimensity 7020 chip and also the Samsung Galaxy A55 with the relatively powerful Exynos 1480 chip.

Antutu 3D

Infinix GT 20 Pro – 933,015

Infinix Note 40 Pro – 450,320

Samsung Galaxy A55 – 686,987

Geekbench 6

Infinix GT 20 Pro – 1244/3516

Infinix Note 40 Pro – 1120/3338

Samsung Galaxy A55 – 1120/3338

3D Mark Wildlife Extreme

Infinix GT 20 Pro – 1736/10.40 FPS

Infinix Note 40 Pro – Unable to test

Samsung Galaxy A55 – 1049 / 6.28 FPS

My best experience with this device was playing Call of Duty for Mobile. The highest graphics settings are capable of running at around 40FPS for a 15 minute session. Marvel SNAP had no problem moving at 60FPS for over 1 hour straight play sessions. The device also has no heating issues as the powerful X Arena handles the CPU and GPU processing.

CAMERA

When testing an affordable device, I wouldn't expect anything truly out of the ordinary to experience. As for the GT 20 Pro's camera system, it's quite good again for a basic class device camera but the post-processing algorithm is mid-class. Below is the result of the image with details of the lighting atmosphere and the mode used.

Close-up mode, not portrait at Asar time. Bokeh effect is good, and details seem acceptable but there is still a hint of softness.

Selfie at noon while walking is pretty good. No focus problems just details are not well preserved.

3x zoom mode in the late afternoon. HDR is activated but the sky is not so beautiful, surprisingly the details of this house can be seen well.

XOS 14 for GT has a fake sky mode, this is a midday photo around Kampung Baru – this dusk mode looks great.

Close-up portraits with dim lighting are quite interesting. The dirt on this fake flower is obvious.

The running human portrait mode has average quality. This result takes a few seconds to process.

The night mode does not have beautiful colors, light reflection interference to the lens makes the result of the picture aah cinematic but messy.

Portraits in the hall with bright lights look neat but color is sacrificed.

I rarely do video recording tests using a cheap device like this. For the Infinix GT 20 Pro there is a dual-camera recording mode which is quite neat and beautiful. Colors are still faded but that doesn't stop users from adding color filters to beautify the video footage to be suitable for social media.

AUDIO

Just like the Note 40 Pro, the GT 20 Pro also uses a stereo speaker system tuned by JBL. It's a shame that a good collaboration doesn't come with interesting qualities. The speaker of the device is more than loud without definition making the experience of playing games, listening to music and watching videos not immersive and quickly boring.

BATTERY AND CHARGING

The GT 20 Pro has no Cheetah X1 battery chip, no wireless charging support or reverse charging. It's just a gaming device with a 5000mAh battery that supports 45W fast charging based on PD 3.0 technology. You can use the official charger, PD GaN 45W charger on the third party is not a problem.

For battery life, heavy use such as non-stop gaming and using the camera can only last up to 6 hours SOT. For light use it is different because the battery life can reach up to 11 hours SOT which is no problem for two days of use. The charging period from 0% e 100% is only about one hour which is acceptable.

WHAT'S IN THE BOX?

Infinix GT 20 Pro is not only sold at an affordable price, but also still offers various items in the purchase box. Here's what you'll get;

1x Infinix GT 20 Pro

1x Sturdy plastic protective frame

1x USB-A to USB-C Cable

1x USB-A 45W Charger

1x tempered protective glass

1x Guidebook and safety

CONCLUSION

If not told the price, I would think this device might cost RM2000. The actual price is RM1299 which is ridiculous. A decent 144Hz AMOLED screen, a Dimensity 8200 chip with a powerful 12GB LPDDR5X RAM, a 108MP camera and a robust XOS 14 for GT operating system are the perfect affordable gaming device package. If you want to start dabbling in the e-sports arena, or want a gaming device that doesn't break the bank - Infinix GT 20 Pro is a must try.
