Mercedes-Benz Tests MCS Electric Vehicle Charging With 1mW Charging Rate

One of the biggest issues with electric vehicle ownership today is the time it takes to charge the vehicle. Currently, even with the fastest DC charging, users still need 30-40 minutes to an hour to fully charge these vehicles.

Recently, Mercedes-Benz has reportedly tested their latest EV charging technology called the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) which can charge electric vehicles at a rate of 1mW. Mercedes is seen testing this charging system using their latest electric test vehicle, a new truck called the Mercedes eActros 600.

This electric truck comes with a 621kWH battery with a range of 500KM with one full charge. In terms of charging, Mercedes says that it will come with a 400kW CCS2 charging system, but it will also be offered with this MCS charging system offering in the future. So far it is not known when the eActros 600 truck will be offered on the European market.

MCS charging is expected to be used by large-sized vehicles such as trucks, semis, buses and electric lorries first because these electric vehicles are seen to be present with quite large battery sizes. It is likely that this technology will be utilized as a fast DC charging platform for EVs in the future.
