OpenAI Chief Scientist Ilya Sutskever Leaves Company

Ilya Sutskever, chief scientist and co-founder of OpenAI announced he will be leaving the AI company yesterday. The announcement was made a day after OpenAI launched the smarter ChatGPT 4o – Omni with multi-mode capabilities.

The announcement of leaving the company was made by Sutskever through his X page. He ended a decade-long career at OpenA that saw it start as an AI pitted against humans in video games before becoming an intelligent chabot and now an intelligent virtual assistant with abilities that have long been considered the stuff of science fiction.

While at OpenAI, he was involved in getting Sam Altman fired by the board of directors before changing his stance and wanting Altman back as CEO. After Altman returned, he was fired from the board.

Sutskever said he has new future plans but is not ready to announce them yet. There is speculation that he will move to another large company that now desperately needs expertise to build their own AI models.
