Today's Malaysia AutoShow 2024 showcased a number of electric vehicles, and Perodua also showcased their prototype electric car based on their most popular car, the Myvi.
This electric vehicle prototype was completely developed by them, with only one component developed by a company from Australia which is the energy conversion component. Even more proud, the power bench development was also developed in collaboration with 3 local universities namely UNITEN, UniKL and UPM.
In terms of the specifications of this prototype, it has a nickel cobalt (NMC) battery of 55.7 kWh with a travel distance of 350km. Perodua also stated that the target acceleration speed from 0-100 km/h is around 7-9 seconds. The AC charging speed is 11kW which takes around 5 hours while the targeted DC charging speed is 50kW which will take around 1 hour.
In terms of design, it also features a side view camera to replace the side view mirror, and the front clearly shows an electric motor without any storage space. Perodua also showed the inner frame of the electric Myvi prototype, complete with suspension and battery arrangement.
However, since this is a prototype, it is possible that the finish, design, and specifications are not the final design and specifications for the version that will be sold to consumers later. Perodua is expected to launch their electric car as early as 2025 and it is likely that we will see an electric car sold below RM 100,000.
