Samsung Holds ASEAN's Largest Smartphone Market With Transition On The Second Stage

Transsion has just entered the Malaysian market through the Tecno and Infinix brands. Even so, in recent times they have now managed to be the second brand with the highest device production in the Southeast Asian region in Q1 2024 according to a Canalys report.

They held 18% of device production in the quarter. Samsung is at the top with a 19% market share. The gap between these two brands is very small. In third place are Xiaomi and Oppo respectively while Vivo is in fifth place with 12%.

But in terms of market value, Apple and Samsung are at the top with 30% followed by Oppo (10%), Xiaomi (9%), and Vivo (7%). Despite not entering the list of the 5 largest device manufacturers in Southeast Asia, Apple is still able to generate the highest income helped by the more premium selling price of the iPhone.

In Malaysia, Samsung ranks first with an 18% share followed by Xiaomi (17%), Vivo (12%), Oppo (12%) and Transsion. Samsung's dominance in the Malaysian market is being eroded by Chinese-made brands that offer more affordable sales prices.
