In 2022, Tesla announced Steam application support on Model S and Model X. With this, owners can enjoy video games such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Witcher 3 offered on Steam directly on the vehicle's infotainment system. The Tesla car is now not only a vehicle but a gaming PC.
However, as soon as Tesla car buyers receive an email stating that a new vehicle has been purchased, the Steam app is not installed or downloadable. Despite being offered on Tesla vehicles since 2022, the app never made it past the Beta stage. The Steam application however can still be used on existing vehicles.
There was speculation that support was discontinued because not many Tesla owners were seen accessing Steam in the vehicle. It's also possible that Tesla is being investigated by NHTSA because the Passenger Play video game mode is said to be distracting to the driver. This mode has been deactivated by Tesla when the vehicle is in motion since 2021.
