A few days ago, Apple launched the new iPad Pro with the powerful Apple M4 chip. Apple has also switched from a miniLED screen to a Tandem OLED and also offers a Nano Texture Display option. Although the iPad Pro uses an advanced OLED panel for the screen, supporting a refresh rate of 120Hz True Motion it does not support Always-on Display.
Why not? This is because the OLED screen used on both the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro does not support an adaptive refresh rate of 1Hz-120Hz, but is instead limited to 10Hz-120Hz. For that, Always-on Display support is not included for battery saving. This matter however may change as there are rumors that Apple wants to offer a dock with speakers for the iPad that can be turned into a smart screen at home or office like the Google Nest Hub Max.
Do you value the Always-on display feature? For me, it is important because it is easy to see basic information such as hours, dates and important notifications. Many Android tablets with OLED screens only support Always-on Display and hopefully Apple will change its mind in the near future.
