AI PC computers were just launched this year with Intel Core Ultra chips. But with the announcement of Copilot+ PC earlier this morning, all these new AI PCs won't be able to enjoy some of the new features announced by Microsoft.
The all-new Recall, CoCreator, Live Captions and Creative Filters features are confirmed to be exclusive to Copilot+ PCs equipped with the Snapdragon X chip via Microsoft's FAQ page. Support for on-device AI processing features on Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Express and Capcut is also confirmed exclusively for Copilot+ PC.
AI PCs with Intel Core Ultra chips cannot run the new features because they require an NPU with a minimum power of 40 TOPS. At this point only the Snapdragon X Plus and X Elite meet the set criteria.
If you have just bought an AI PC, this announcement must be disappointing because even though it is only a year old, the innovative features of Windows 11 cannot be used. This is a rather troubling issue for PC users in the near future. Will today's new PCs quickly become obsolete devices due to the ever-increasing need for NPUs?
Samsung is offering Galaxy AI features not only on the new Galaxy S24 series, but on flagship devices that are already two years old. Why can't Microsoft do the same? What is Microsoft's guarantee that this new Copilot+ PC won't lose support any time soon?
