World's Largest 911 S5 Botnet Network Operation Crippled – Suspect Arrested In Singapore



The American Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) this morning announced the operation of the 911 S5 group, which is the world's largest botnet network, has been successfully disabled. In an operation that also involved the law enforcement agencies of Singapore, Thailand, and Germany, YunHe Wang, who is believed to be the administrator of the 911 S5 operation, was successfully arrested in Singapore.



YunHe Wang, a Chinese national, is believed to be the mastermind behind the 911 S5 which is believed to have infected millions of computers around the world with 19 million IPs. The 911 S5 malware is installed on victims' computers using VPN applications such as MaskVPN, DewVPN, PaladinVPN, ProxyGate, ShieldVPN, and ShineVPN.


A total of 23 domains used for operations have also been seized and taken over by the authorities. Over the period of 911 S5's operation between 2014 and 2022, YunHe Wang is believed to have generated $99 million in income by providing access to cybercriminals for hacking, financial fraud, and the distribution of child pornography. If found guilty, YunHe Wang could be sentenced to up to 65 years in prison.
