The future of Xbox is a little hazy with the closure of four development studios as well as confirmation that Game Pass prices will be increased in the near future. They have already raised the white flag in the war against PlayStation for this generation. But Microsoft's focus for Xbox after this is mobile gaming (first) anyway.
The president of Xbox, Sarah Bond confirmed to Bloomberg that the first Xbox store will be launched next July, confirming rumors that have been heard since 2022. At the initial stage, only their first IPs such as Call of Duty: Mobile and Candy Crush Saga. will be offered before other popular apps are offered. Xbox's first store will be an alternative to Apple's Apple Store and Google Play Store.
However, this store will only be available in the web version first. It's hard to see Google and Apple allowing users to download app stores that would compete with their own.
Last March Microsoft announced that support for Android apps in Windows 11 would not continue. Now they will also launch their own Android store. In Europe this is possible because the Digital Market Act (DMA) forces platform owners to allow applications to be installed from alternative stores.
