The US Department of Justice (DOJ) is suing Adobe for offering subscription plans that it says are not transparent to users. What the DOJ is focusing on is a monthly payment plan for a one-year subscription to Adobe's software. If the customer wishes to terminate earlier than the expiry period, they will be subject to expensive penalty charges.
Adobe is said not to display terms and conditions that state penalty payments of up to 50% of the remaining annual subscription will be imposed on customers. These high penalty fees often go viral on social media because many customers are unaware of the terms and conditions that are not clearly displayed when starting a subscription.
After being sued, Adobe released a statement denying the DOJ's allegations and will fight it in a court hearing later.
