Last April, Apple began allowing console game emulators such as NES, PSP, PlayStation 1 and Game Boy to be offered to iOS devices through the Apple Store. But according to a report by The Verge, Apple does not allow consoles for PC games to be offered on the same platform.
The developers of PC games iDOS 3 and UTM SE say applications for updated versions of their apps on iOS have been rejected by Apple. The reason given is that iOS guidelines only allow retro console consoles to be offered.
This is because unlike console consoles that run their own code, older PC game consoles run native operating system code. As a result it may cause infringement of the intellectual property of the owner of the original operating system. Apple has not shared whether App Store guidelines will be updated to allow retro PC game console offerings in the future.
