Google Will Bring Support for Sending Emergency Messages Via RCS

Rich Communication Service or RCS is Google's answer to Apple iMessage as a replacement for SMS, where every message and content is encrypted, access requires an Internet connection and offers more features and functions similar to other messaging applications. Most recently, Google will bring support for sending emergency messages through RCS.

Currently, this feature is limited in the United States only where 53% of 911 call centers support sending text messages but not receiving photos or videos. In collaboration with RapidSOS, this emergency call center will start using RCS technology. This indirectly allows the victim to see the confirmation of the message received by the authorities, evidence in the form of photos or videos can be sent with the highest resolution and can also share the exact location.

For now, this feature is still in the testing stage and it is not certain when it will be available to users in the United States. Sources also did not share whether Google will also bring more or less the same features to local authorities.
