Rimac's Robotaxi Has a Level 4 Self-driving System and is Not Equipped with a Steering Wheel

Driverless robotaxi are already offered in China, South Korea and several states in the United States. But all of them are conventional cars modified with cameras, LiDAR and additional equipment making the use of space less optimal. Rimac, an automotive company based in Croatia has shown off their fully electric robotaxi designed to operate without a driver.

Robotaxi Verne has Level 4 self-driving capabilities and has no steering wheel or any control pedals at all. On the other hand the Verne cabin can accommodate two passengers with ample legroom. At the front there is a giant 43″ panel that will display driver information and an infotainment system that can be controlled by passengers.

There is also an LCD screen on the side of the Verne that will display the name of the customer who ordered it. With this, there is no issue of getting on the wrong robotaxi. Through a special application, customers can book a trip, control the temperature of the air conditioner, play the song they want to listen to and control the fragrance in the cabin.

LiDAR technology and MobileEye cameras are used as self-driving system sensors. Rimax Verne will start operations in the city of Zagre, Croatia in 2026 with plans to expand to 11 more cities in the future.
