Shopee Found Violating Anti-Competition Laws In Indonesia By Favoring Certain Delivery Services

Shopee has now been found to be in breach of anti-competition laws in Indonesia, and has agreed to make changes to their services in the country. Shopee was found to be using their position in driving consumers to use certain delivery services.

Through preliminary investigation by the Indonesian authorities, it was found that Shopee prioritizes Shopee Express for the delivery of customer purchases. In addition, Shopee Express and J&T Express delivery services are automatically activated for all sellers – while other delivery services need to perform well, and are not automatically selected.

Indonesian authorities say Shopee and Shopee Express have pleaded guilty to these violations, and agreed to make changes.

In addition to Shopee, Indonesian authorities are also investigating Lazada.
