The Government Will Study The Adaptation Of Cultured Meat And Cell-Based Food Technology

Food security is a very important topic for the benefit of a country because food storage for the people is needed in the event of a famine for various reasons.

Today, Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim chaired the first meeting of the Cabinet Committee on National Food Security Policy together with the Ministry of Agriculture and National Food Security, Mohamad Sabu.

Apart from the issue of national food security, some other topics that were discussed were about studies for the adaptation of technology and the exploration of the potential of future food such as cultured meat, cultured meat products and cell-based food. This includes research related to protein foods developed in the laboratory, such as what has already begun to be developed in several countries such as the United States and Singapore.

For those of you who may have just heard about cell-based food, in short it is "meat" developed using animal cells in a laboratory. Instead of using plants as a "substitute" for meat protein, it is still seen as "pure meat" which reduces the need to slaughter animals for food.

Apart from that, the government also intends to modernize the country's agricultural sector through the development of plant factories that will support the growth of the agricultural technology industry to produce sustainable food production as an alternative to current crop production.

All these ideas to advance food technology are aimed at ensuring the country's preparedness in preserving the country's food supply so that we do not face the problem of food shortage whenever the issue of food famine occurs.

It is expected that the Ministry of Agriculture and National Food Security will introduce a number of programs to initiate the process of food security at all levels.
