The Tender Process For The Development Of The Second 5G Network Will Begin This July 1 – Fahmi Fadzil

A few days ago, we reported that the Malaysian Communications Minister, Fahmi Fadzil said that the government, through the Malaysian Multimedia Communications Commission (SKMM) will be ready to start the tender process and development of the second 5G network soon.

Today, after CelcomDigi and Maxis confirmed ownership of 14 percent of the equity holding in Digital Nasional Berhad, he announced that within a few days, SKMM will start developing documents to start the tender opening process which will start on July 1.

This tender selection process will consist of telecommunications companies that have already completed the SSA process for ownership of 70 percent of DNB's equity, consisting of CelcomDigi, U Mobile, Maxis, Telekom Malaysia and YTL Communications.

Through this tender process, which is expected to take several months, it will be known which telecommunication companies will participate in the development of this second 5G network. According to Fahmi Fadzil, he expects that the announcement regarding the involvement of the selected telecommunications companies will be known around the end of the third quarter or the beginning of the fourth quarter.

He also said that the development of this second network is expected to help end any 5G service monopoly elements that are often heralded, and help in increasing network coverage, in addition to lowering the price of 5G network subscriptions for local businesses and Malaysians so that more people can benefit this fast internet connection.
