The arrival of a prestigious sporting event every 4 years, namely the Olympic Games, certainly requires technological sophistication to support all aspects of this organization. At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Alibaba Cloud continues their commitment in providing cloud technology to launch this event.
There are four aspects of technology powered by Alibaba Cloud. The first is OBS Cloud 3.0 which is a cloud-based Olympic sports broadcasting system that is also powered by AI. First used at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics for 1 broadcast channel, the 3.0 version used in Paris is used up to 54 broadcast channels. In fact, AI technology also allows sports events to be seen from different points of view.
This allows playback footage as well as still action to be shown from multiple angles, and provides a more meaningful viewing experience. This recording system is used in 14 locations covering 21 sports including rugby, badminton, basketball, judo. tennis and more.
Next, Alibaba Cloud Energy Expert is also used to optimize energy use in all 35 competition locations throughout the Paris 2024 Olympic event. This Energy Expert system, which was first shown during the Singapore 2023 Olympic Games event, will monitor energy use including contingency plans, spectator capacity and athletes in the stadium , and also displays the weather conditions in one easy view for the organizers.
Through the Energy Expert system, the organizers can also measure the rate of carbon release, in order to ensure that the Paris 2024 Olympic event complies with the set level of sustainability. And the AI system on Energy Expert also provides suggestions to reduce carbon emissions, such as suggesting the use of recycled wood and iron materials in several locations around Paris.
Another technology used by Alibaba Cloud at this event is the re-coloring of the moments of the 1924 Paris Olympics using AI. Alibaba Cloud has also produced a special short video for female athletes throughout Olympic history who also went through the AI coloring process.
