Apple Receives Seat on OpenAI Board of Directors as Observer

Apple is given a seat on OpenAI's board of directors as an observer. This is part of the conditions agreed by OpenAI to enable their artificial intelligence (AI) to be offered in iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia. Phil Schiller who is the head of the Apple Store division was elected as Apple's representative on this board of directors.

Board members as observers empower Apple to provide feedback and opinions and attend company meetings. However, they do not have voting power like other boards of directors. In addition to Apple, Microsoft also received a seat on OpenAI's board of directors as an observer.

We previously reported that OpenAI is not paid by Apple for their services like ChatGPT is offered on the product. OpenAI simply hopes that the exposure to artificial intelligence features will make Apple users interested in breaking into their paid services with a cut that will also be received by Apple.

Earlier reports emerged that Microsoft was not happy with Apple being given access to the OpenAI infrastructure. Microsoft has invested billions of dollars before being given access to OpenAI services through the Copilot feature.
