Apple Uses Google Tensor Chip To Train Apple Intelligence

Apple finally admits that Google's technology is great. At least in the artificial intelligence arena, as they use Google Tensor chips to train Apple Intelligence as opposed to using NVIDIA chips that many companies use.

To train Apple Intelligence, 2,048 Google TPUv5p chips were used to develop the AI model and 8,192 Google TPUv4 chips were used for the AI server. Because access to Google's chips is only provided in the cloud, Apple has to develop their AI software with the tools available in Google's platform. Apple engineers explained in their study that the Tensor Processing Unit or TPU chip by Google is very efficient in training complex AI.

In Apple's research paper, the ethics of training AI are also explained that no user personal data is used and only public or licensed data is used to train Apple Intelligence. Apple Intelligence can also finally be tested in beta versions of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia. It will arrive to users around October after iOS 18 stable is launched.
