Covid-19 Positive Individuals Treated Like Other Respiratory Tract Infections – No More HSO Instructions From 15 July 2024

The Ministry of Health now informs that no new variant has been detected in Malaysia for Covid-19, and the variant that is still contagious is the Omicron variant. Reported Covid-19 cases also showed a decrease, including cases involving death. In parallel, the Ministry of Health is now updating several matters involving the Surveillance and Observation Order for Covid-19.

Effective July 15, 2024, individuals who are positive for Covid-19 will be treated the same as other respiratory tract infections, and will no longer be given an HSO (Home Surveillance Order) or home quarantine instructions. However, the individual concerned is asked to remain at home or residence, avoid close interaction with other people, and seek examination and treatment through a nearby health facility if symptoms persist or worsen. The granting of a Sick Leave Certificate and referral to the hospital will be based on the assessment of the treating Medical Officer. Covid-19 positive individuals also do not need to report their positive status through the MySejahtera application.

In addition, Covid-19 positive individuals are encouraged to wear face masks, minimize social interaction, and avoid crowded places.

This new change will come into effect on July 15, 2024. This step is parallel to the phase transition of living with Covid-19. The Ministry of Health will continue to monitor the latest Covid-19 situation globally as well as in Malaysia.
