EU Finds Selling Identity Verification As Subscription By X Violates Act Because It Is Misleading

The European Union is quite active in enforcing the Digital Services Act, while ensuring that various social media companies do not break the rules or bring harm to other users. Most recently, the European Union was seen conducting an investigation, and preliminary findings found X (or formerly known as Twitter) guilty of selling identity verification as a subscription.

As many are aware, X offers an X Premium subscription at a price of around RM35 per month, allowing anyone to get a blue verification mark next to their name. It is said that this simultaneously obscures the user's eyes, and makes it difficult for them to identify the legitimacy of the account they are interacting with.

This is also found to be in violation of the law in the European Union where social media companies have to take steps to ensure that users are not deceived by false or inaccurate content.

For now, party X can still appeal the decision of the European Union.
