Germany Extends Huawei 5G Equipment Dump Date To 2029

The German government has given local telecommunications companies until 2026 to dispose of 5G equipment made by Huawei and ZTE. This is because the equipment of these two companies is alleged to pose a security risk to the country.

However, this week the German government agreed to extend the period for disposing of Huawei-made 5G equipment to 2029. This is because of various issues such as cost and the time period given previously was said to be unrealistic by telecommunications companies.

When the 5G network was first developed, Germany refused to impose restrictions on Huawei and ZTE equipment as did the United Kingdom, and France. But after receiving pressure from allied countries, sanctions were imposed last year after the infrastructure had already been built.

In Malaysia, the United States and the European Union have already warned the country not to use Huawei and ZTE equipment on the two countries' 5G networks. The second 5G network is expected to be announced in the near future but information about the equipment that will be used is still unknown. The Malaysian government previously said it would not impose any barriers to using Chinese-made equipment.
