Google Photos Pictures and Videos Can Now Be Transferred Directly to iCloud Photos

Photos stored in Google Photos can now be easily transferred to iCloud Photos storage starting today. Google and Apple enabled this feature under the Data Transfer Initiative (DTI) that they established with Meta.

Users do not need to transfer photos in Google Photos manually. They only need to follow the instructions so that the photos and videos are transferred to iCloud Photos through the Google Takeout page. Then follow the given instructions to start the migration process. The transfer process will take several hours to several days depending on the size of the file.

Supported file types are JPEG, HEIC, PNG, GIF, TIFF, and BMP for pictures. Meanwhile, the supported video file types are MP4 and MOV. Live Photos and Memories however cannot be transferred to iCloud Photos. Unsupported files will instead be saved to iCloud Drive.
